Slide backgrounds provide the base for text, cards, and images. You can use a solid color or an available background image, then review the content against it.

Change a slide background

  1. Open the slide in the preview.
  2. Select its background to open the Slide contextual controls.
  3. Choose the background type and color or image available in the menu.
  4. Review text contrast and the visibility of borders, accents, logos, and slide numbers.

Add background assets

Open Branding to upload the background images you want to use. Return to the slide’s contextual controls and select the asset. If the picker is empty, add an asset in Branding first.

Background images fill the slide area, so their visible framing can differ from the original image. Leave quiet space in the image where slide text will sit, and inspect the preview at full size.

Reuse or reset the background

Use the relevant apply action to copy the background setting to the scope shown in the dialog. Use Reset All only after checking which slide settings it will reset; it may cover more than the background alone.

A background is an appearance setting. It does not replace inline images in the Google Doc. For an image-led content slide, see Position, crop, and shape images.

After finishing, sync the managed Google Slides presentation if you want its background updated.
