Manage reusable designs in the Themes panel so the presentations you maintain have an appropriate appearance baseline. Use search and the Custom filter to find a theme. Available actions depend on your access and the theme’s type.

Edit a theme

  1. Open Themes and locate the custom theme.
  2. Use its edit action when available.
  3. Review the theme name and representative layouts in the builder.
  4. Make the changes and choose Update theme.
  5. Recheck the theme against real content in the document.

An updated theme is not the same as an updated Google Slides deck. Review and sync each managed presentation that needs the new appearance.

Remove a theme

Use the delete action and read the confirmation. Deletion is irreversible through that action. Before deleting a design used by your team, decide which theme should replace it in ongoing workflows.

Do not assume deleting a theme will restyle existing Google Slides files. Those files are separate outputs.

Manage Google Slides theme files

Themes backed by Google Slides files can include an action to open the original file and an action to grant workspace access. Those controls do not appear for every builder-created theme.

Where the workspace access action is available, use it to make the underlying theme file available as required, then check access with the relevant Google account.

If actions are missing or disabled, check your plan and workspace permissions. See Troubleshoot custom themes and missing assets.
