Understand what syncing changes or overwrites

Review how managed updates affect manual edits, missing slides, and slide removals.

Before updating a managed deck, understand which output the sync action will replace. Google Docs holds the source content and SlideAdmin previews show the appearance that sync sends to Google Slides.

Manual edits in Google Slides

Sync can overwrite content and formatting edited directly in a managed Google Slides slide. A full sync rebuilds even slides marked Synced, so that status does not mean a slide will be skipped.

For example, if you change a heading’s color in Google Slides and later sync that slide, the preview’s heading appearance is applied again. Put changes you want to retain in the source Doc or SlideAdmin settings.

Missing and extra slides

A managed slide deleted directly in Google Slides can be recreated from its preview during sync. A slide removed from the Doc is marked Removed in Docs and can be removed from the output.

Full sync rebuilds the deck in preview order and removes slides not represented in the previews, including slides added manually in Google Slides. Content filters can therefore change which slides remain in the output.

Preserve a finished deck

Make a Google Slides copy before syncing if you need to retain manual changes. For a deck that should stop receiving managed updates, unlink the presentation.

Sync does not import Google Slides edits back into Google Docs. Use Import Google Slides into a Google Doc for a separate content-import workflow.
